In A Missile Test, Russia Destroys Its Own Satellite

Washington, DC – The US has blasted Russia for conducting a “dangerous and reckless” missile assault that damaged its own satellites and left a cloud of debris, forcing the International Space Station crew to take emergency measures. According to a report in the Dawn newspaper, officials stated Washington had not been informed of the test and that they would talk to allies about how to respond. It’s worth noting that this was the fourth time a spacecraft was attacked from the ground.

The action has reignited fears of a space arms race, which encompasses anything from laser weapons to satellites that can launch other satellites into orbit. “On November 15, 2021, the Russian Federation foolishly launched a deadly test of a direct anti-satellite missile against one of its own satellites,” US Secretary of State Anthony Blanken stated in a statement. According to him, the experiment created about 1,500 tracking debris in orbit, with millions of tiny trash.

Four Americans, a German, and two Russians aboard the space station were forced to take refuge in their return jets, according to the statement, which is a typical “safe haven” alert mechanism that might require evacuation in the case of an emergency.

The station was later reset to the “green” alert status, according to a tweet from the Russian space agency Roscosmos. However, Anthony Blanken stated emphatically that the threat is not yet passed.
“The long-term debris generated by this hazardous and irresponsible test now endangers satellites and other space objects that are crucial for all nations and will continue to torment all nations for decades to come,” warned US Secretary of State John Kerry. Important in terms of security, economics, and science.

According to Cerradata, a space industry analysis firm, the missile was intended for Cosmos 1408, a Soviet signals intelligence satellite launched in 1982 that has been dormant for decades.

Anti-satellite missiles are cutting-edge weaponry that only a few countries possess.
In 2019, India was the final country to test a target, resulting in hundreds of pieces of “space debris” that were widely condemned by other countries, notably the US.
