بھارت کی ساحلی پٹی ساڑھے سات ہزار کلومیٹر طویل ہے۔ اس میں سے چھبیس فیصد کو سمندر آہستہ آہستہ نگل رہا ہے۔ مشرقی ساحل پر اڑیسہ اور تامل ناڈو کے متعدد علاقوں میں گزشتہ سو برس کے دوران سمندر بارہ کلومیٹر تک اندر گھس چکا ہے۔جبکہ مغربی ریاست کیرالہ میں سمندر چھ میٹر سالانہ کے حساب سے زمین کو پیچھے دھکیل رہا ہے۔ ریاست گوا کے ایک سو پانچ کلومیٹر طویل ساحل میں سے دس فیصد کو سمندر چاٹ چاٹ کر اب گوا کے گورنر کی رہائش گاہ کے پچھواڑے تک پہنچ گیا ہے۔ اندازہ ہے کہ اگلے بیس برس میں یہاں کا سفید ریت والا وہ ساحل غائب ہوجائے گا جس کی کشش ہر سال پچیس لاکھ سیاحوں کو کھینچتی ہے۔ پاکستان کی ساحلی پٹی ایک ہزار پچاس کلومیٹر طویل ہے۔ جس میں کراچی سے کچھ کے درمیان صوبہ سندھ کے دو اضلاع ٹھٹہ اور بدین بدترین سمندری غنڈہ گردی کا شکار ہیں۔ ہر سال سمندر لگ بھگ پچاس ہزار ایکڑ زمین کھا رہا ہے۔ ٹھٹہ کی ایک تحصیل کھارو چھان کا آدھا حصہ سمندر ہضم کرچکا ہے۔اس بحری جارحیت کی دو موٹی موٹی وجوہات بیان کی جاتی ہیں۔ اول یہ کہ اس خطے میں موسمیاتی تبدیلیوں کے نتیجے میں بڑھتے ہوئے درجہ حرارت کے سبب سمندری سطح میں ایک اعشاریہ ایک ملی میٹر سالانہ کا اضافہ ہورہا ہے۔ شائد اسی لیے پاکستان دنیا کے ان دس ممالک کی فہرست میں شامل کردیا گیا ہے جنہیں موسمیاتی تبدیلیوں سے سب سے زیادہ خطرہ ہے۔
دوسری وجہ یہ بیان کی جاتی ہے کہ ٹھٹہ اور بدین دریائے سندھ کے ڈیلٹا پر آباد ہیں۔ یہ دنیا کا چھٹا بڑا دریائی ڈیلٹا ہے۔ یہاں تک پہنچتے پہنچتے دریا خشک ہوجاتا ہے۔ سمندر کی بدمعاشی سے بچنے کے لیے سالانہ دس ملین ایکڑ فٹ دریائی پانی اس ڈیلٹا سے گزرنا ضروری ہے۔ لیکن گزشتہ پچیس برس کے دوران یہاں سے اوسطاً سالانہ پونے ایک ملین ایکڑ فٹ پانی ہی گزر پارہا ہے۔چنانچہ سمندر اس کمزوری کا فائدہ اٹھا کر ڈیلٹا پر چڑھ دوڑا ہے۔ مگر اسلام آباد ہو کہ دلی کے پالیسی ساز، وہ کسی اور دنیا میں ہی مگن ہیں۔ انہیں احساس ہی نہیں کہ جس ایک سو پینتیس کلومیٹر لمبی اور بتیس کلومیٹر چوڑی کشمیر وادی کے لیے وہ پچھلے تریسٹھ برس سے ہر سطح پر ایک دوسرے کو نیچا دکھانے میں لگے ہوئے ہیں، اس کے برابر کا رقبہ اسی عرصے میں سمندر برد ہوچکا ہے۔اور کشمیر وادی کی آبادی سے چار گنا آبادی اس سمندر گردی کے سبب بھیک مانگنے کی سطح پر پہنچ گئی ہے۔
چھہتر کلومیٹر طویل اور پانچ کلومیٹر چوڑے سیاچن گلیشیئر پر لگ بھگ چھ ہزار فوجی ایک دوسرے کی آنکھوں میں آنکھیں ڈال کر گزشتہ چھبیس برس سے کھڑے ہیں۔ ان تک پانچ روپے کی روٹی پہنچانے پر پچانوے روپے خرچ ہورہے ہیں۔ یہ مہم جویانہ عیاشی اس حقیقت کے باوجود جاری ہے کہ جس گلیشیئر کو حاصل کرنے کے لیے اب تک چار ہزار کے لگ بھگ فوجی سردی اور گولی کی غذا بن چکے ہیں وہ گلیشیئر بھی اگلے پچیس تیس برس میں شرم سے پانی پانی ہوکر غائب ہوجائے گا۔
دونوں ممالک اپنی مٹی کا ایک ایک انچ مقدس سمجھتے ہیں۔ ہر صبح بھارت ماتا کی سوگند یا پاک سرزمین کی قسم کھاتے ہیں۔ اور سمندر ہے کہ ان سربہ گریبانوں کا پاجامہ کھینچے لیے جارہا ہے۔
Some thirteen years have passed but “Alpha Bravo Charlie” is still regarded as one of the most popular and celebrated plays of Pakistan Television (PTV). The series provided a glimpse into the lives of the soldiers and captivated audiences with its larger than life acting and script. This time, Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) has come up with a thrilling drama series based on the true stories of brave Pakistanis. Titled “Faseel-e-Jaan Se Aagay” (Invincible Spirits, Immortal Souls), the play is ISPR’s collaboration with CRS Public Relations, a private production company.
The series premiered in Lahore on Wednesday. A total of 11 episodes based on real-life stories of army personnel, policemen and civilians executing operations against terrorists and militants in the Mingora region. Promos of six stories were shared at the event while the remaining five will be released in April 2011. “Faseel-e-Jaan Se Aagay” is a tribute to the immortals by the mortals, according to the drama’s executive producer Khawar Azhar.
“Matti Ka Qarz”, one of the six stories is based on the life of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Javaid Iqbal who wrote new chapters of gallantry in the violence hit Malakand Division. The brave officer stood firm in the face of life threats when police force in the area had lost morale and was abandoning the area. Iqbal embraced martyrdom, the terrorists even carried out a suicide attack on his funeral procession, killing 55 people including his young son. It is directed by Azeem Sajjad and written by Sajjad Saji and stars Noman Ejaz, Saba Qamar and Yasmeen Haq in lead roles.
“Meraj”, another story that is based on the life of Captain Meraj Muhammad who was martyred in Swat. He was the recipient of the Sword of Honour and had conducted several operations with Frontier Corps at Khyber Agency and Buner. The episode is directed by Shakil Adnan and written by Zafar Meraj. Captain Waqasur Rehman has played the lead role in “Meraj”.
“Inkaar” is based on 14-year old Raheem Gul who became a suicide bomber. He had to carry out a suicide attack at a mosque in DI Khan but changed his mind just 60 seconds before the execution time. It is written by Wasi Shah and directed by Kashif Nisar. It stars Leyla Zuberi and Mohammad Yasir in lead roles.
“Ada-e-Sarfaroshi” is about Hawaldar Naeem Asghar who facilitated Pakistan Army in having a secure access route till Bahrain town in the valley of Adeen, Mingora. He alone attacked the safe location of terrorists with grenades and embraced martyrdom. The story is scripted by Sajjad Saji and it is directed by Kashif Nisar. Kamran Mujahid and Sofia Mirza have played the lead roles.
“Ek Beti Ek Khanai”about is a 16-year-old girl, Momi Gul who was kidnapped and molested for two months in Mingora region by a terrorist. She was later forced into a marriage to a 72-year-old Afghan commander and was ultimately recovered by Pakistan Army. The story is written by Amir Raza and directed by Kashif Nisar. It stars Maria Khan, Farhat Abdullah and Zia Khan in the main roles.
“Ehd-e-Wafa” tells the story of childhood friends Lieutenant Atif Qayum and Lieutenant Zeeshan Khan who embraced martyrdom in an operation in Swat and North Waziristan, respectively. They studied together, got commissioned in army together and even death couldn’t part them. The story is written by Zafar Meraj and directed by Amir Yousaf. It stars Captain Imran Khan, Firdous Jamal and Nirvaan Nadeem.
PTV’s Managing Director Yousaf Beg Mirza said there were many stakeholders in the war against terrorism and media had largely played a positive role in it. He said that the stories would share the real lives of those who sacrificed their present for the future of the nation.
The drama series will air on PTV from January 14 every Friday at 7:40pm. Incorporating English subtitles to enhance the scope of the play.

Aasha puts a funny twist on a very serious problem.
ISLAMABAD: A calendar based on the theme of women’s harassment was launched here on Saturday by the Alliance Against Sexual Harassment (Aasha). It portrays, in cartoon form, perverted characters responsible for restricting women’s active contribution in socio-economic activities through intimidation and harassment. It’s funny yet serious.
‘Tharki baba’, the calendar’s first character, signifies men who inappropriately hug and touch young girls while pretending to be paternal figures of some sort.
A bald character in a suit, ‘hocha boss’, depicts men who generously extend explicit invitations for intimate relationships to subordinate women along with threats to punish them if they fail to comply. Perhaps the latter is also a form of innuendo for such perverts.
Another character of a man with binoculars, ‘ghuran chatto’, depicts gawkers who are usually found ‘bird-gazing’ at public places such as bus stops.
‘Ustad lucha’ is the wagon driver who touches women while pretending to be changing gears, taking money or making room for other passengers.
Another character depicts teachers who blackmail students into providing sexual favours.
An dog-faced man on a bicycle, ‘khabees on wheels’, depicts goons who offer unrequested lifts to women on the streets and intimidate women drivers. Another character is about men who use mobile phones as a harassment tool, by sending vulgar poetry in anonymous text messages with hopes to “make a connection.”
Speaking at the launching ceremony, the founding member of Aasha Dr Fauzia Saeed said, “The current government has shown commitment and support by passing legislation against sexual harassment, making it a punishable offense for the first time in the history of Pakistan.
