سعید بن ابومریم، محمد بن جعفر، حمید بن ابوحمید طویل، انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ روایت کرتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے گھر میں تین آدمی آپ کی عبادت کا حال پوچھنے آئے، جب ان سے بیان کیا گیا تو انہوں نے آپ کی عبادت بہت کم خیال کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ ہم آپ کی برابری کس طرح کرسکتے ہیں، آپ کے تو اگلے پچھلے گناہ سب معاف ہوگئے ہیں، ایک نے کہا میں رات بھر نماز پڑھا کروں گا، دوسرے نے کہا میں ہمیشہ روزہ رکھوں گا، تیسرے نے کہا میں نکاح نہیں کروں گا اور عورت سے ہمیشہ الگ رہوں گا، اس کے بعد رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ان کے پاس تشریف لائے اور فرمایا کیا تم لوگوں نے یوں یوں کہا ہے؟ اللہ کی قسم! میں اللہ تعالیٰ سے تمہاری بہ نسبت بہت زیادہ ڈرنے والا اور خوف کھانے والا ہوں، پھر روزہ رکھتا ہوں اور افطار بھی کرتا ہوں، نماز پڑھتا ہوں اور سوتا بھی ہوں، اور ساتھ ساتھ عورتوں سے نکاح بھی کرتا ہوں، یاد رکھو جو میری سنت سے روگردانی کرے گا، وہ میرے طریقے پر نہیں۔

Narrated Anas bin Malik:
A group of three men came to the houses of the wives of the Prophet asking how the Prophet worshipped (Allah), and when they were informed about that, they considered their worship insufficient and said, "Where are we from the Prophet as his past and future sins have been forgiven." Then one of them said, "I will offer the prayer throughout the night forever." The other said, "I will fast throughout the year and will not break my fast." The third said, "I will keep away from the women and will not marry forever." Allah's Apostle came to them and said, "Are you the same people who said so-and-so? By Allah, I am more submissive to Allah and more afraid of Him than you; yet I fast and break my fast, I do sleep and I also marry women. So he who does not follow my tradition in religion, is not from me (not one of my followers)."
